I am Joe Quarterback…but you can call me Paul.
I grew up in a basketball state (Go Tops, Go Cats!), but I fell in love with football. I grew up a fan of guys like Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, and Bo Jackson. I got to watch the Cowboys when they were….well, good. I don’t know that I realized it then, but I loved the strategy involved in getting 11 guys to work together towards moving the ball down the field while 11 other guys tried to stop them. My own football career was short-lived (2 years of middle school ball – started at CB in 8th grade) before I chose to focus on music, playing trumpet from sixth grade through junior year of college. But my love of the game remained.
In high school, my family moved to Alabama – a veritable football Mecca. The football Mecca some would say. I gained a deeper appreciation for the college game in these years. I hitched my wagon to the Auburn University Tigers, and it’s been a lesson in loyalty and celebrating the little victories (like the Kick Six…).
I started my post-secondary pursuits in Tampa, FL. The Buccaneers had just moved from the creamsicle color scheme to the pewter and red. Tony Dungy was building an amazing defense (Brooks, Sapp, Barber, Lynch – just to name a few) complemented by a strong offense. I had never lived in an NFL town before, so I adopted the Bucs as my team. I suffered through the close calls of the late nineties to watch their first Super Bowl victory from my couch in Kentucky.
It was just a couple of years later that I discovered fantasy football (thanks, John, if you’re reading), and began to develop a whole new appreciation for the game.
This blog (and the podcast to come) has been brewing for quite some time. I don’t claim to know more than you. I’m just a regular guy who loves talking football with other people who love football. So, I look forward to the conversation. Let me know what you think about my takes. Please be respectful of the people who choose to engage here.
Let’s talk some ball…..
(Also, football is my hobby. There are things in life that I believe are much more important, especially my faith. If you’d like to learn more, check out the blog for the Clear & Present Faith Podcast.)
